BLOGMAS 2020 // 10 days to Christmas

Hi there loves,

I hope you are doing well in these difficult times. I haven’t post in a bit because my laptop broke and it was difficult to post content. I still haven’t fix it but working on it. I celebrate Christmas and the season is here we are 10 days away from Christmas day. Like I do every year I would like to do 10 days to Christmas again this year. Of course it will be different than the other years. This year I want to share simpler content, ideas to do at home and affordable ideas. I know people are having a difficult period of time right now so I wanted to bring some positivity, ideas and inspiration. I hope you enjoy this years Blogmas/ 10 days to Christmas.

I would like to start by asking do you celebrate Christmas? If not what do you celebrate instead? If yes share with me 1 tradition you do every year for Christmas.

On Aruba we celebrate mostly Christmas and we have different traditions from our own home land and some adopted from other cultures. My favorite tradition has to be to drive around with my family at night and search for houses that are beautifully decorated with Christmas lights. We also love eating together with the family on Christmas day, visit other family members and have a drink together until we reach back home. We also like to eat turkey, ham and ayacas which are so delicious. Each family has their touch when it comes to cooking so we love visiting each other a try food. At last but certainly not least we love having a Christmas tree and being able to decorate it with the family.

I know this year all this will not be possible and it truly makes me sad however, this year has thought us to make things different and appreciate what we have at this moment. So I hope you that are reading this, I wish you health, peace, perseverance, positivity and all the best for you and your family this end of year. If you are hurting I hope you can find some calmness for your heart.

LET’S TALK ; CRUELTY FREE

Hi there loves,

I hope you a had a positive and lovely day.

Today I will be writing about my journey going cruelty free with my makeup, skin care and other body care products. This has been quite a difficult transition for me. I have failed so many times going back to brands that are not cruelty free. Here on Aruba where I’m currently living it is difficult to find cruelty free options especially when it comes to skin and body care. However, I’m currently back on track trying to search for cruelty free brands that are available on the island. When it comes to makeup I’m really happy to see a variety of options and products that really work. However, when it comes to skincare is where I struggle the most. My skin is really sensitive, oily and acne prone thus most of the time I use dermatological recommended products and most of the times these are not cruelty free. I know people say that to make a difference you have to go full on cruelty free but in my case it’s not always something I can accomplish, but that does not mean I give up, I do keep on trying. What I want to say is to not beat yourself up if for your personal use you can’t find a cruelty free option, try your best and work with what you have. Every tiny difference counts. But most importantly do what is best for your own personal health. An personal example is that I suffer from chronic hair loss and the products that work for me are not cruelty free and I tried other products but these didn’t work, so for myself I have to use these non cruelty free hair products but I still try to buy makeup from cruelty free brands only. In one category I can’t change it but I try harder in other categories. And remember every change you can do in what you buy does make a difference.

*Story Time*

Lately I’m finishing my non cruelty free skin care products and I was looking for cruelty free options. This is very difficult for me because my skin is super oily, sensitive and acne prone like I mentioned. I suffered a lot with my skin in the past that changing my skin care routine can be very scary. I currently am using the brand Clinique for oily skin and it does wonders for my skin. Or other brands like Vichy, Le Roche-Posay, Eucerin and Ducray. However they are not cruelty free so I am looking for brands that would work for me. I was looking around the store last time and I saw the brand Aveeno and in my head they were cruelty free so I decided to purchase a small face wash to try it out. I started to like how gentle is was on my skin and how soft it left it but the surprise I got when I went to search if they had other products and to confirm it was cruelty free. This brand is sadly not cruelty free. I was really sad because they seem to have really good products but this is a brand I can skip. If you know any good skin care brands for oily skin please let me know.

Now I will share some things I learned a long the way trying to go cruelty free.

It’s not easy, I have to admit that this transition was and is still not an easy one. I struggle a lot and get stressed out when I need to use a non cruelty free product. The good thing is that I started to learn how to deal with this and can say I’m at peace now with my decisions I take when purchasing products. I look at the brands, I read about them and about their ingredients and these steps helped me understand skin care much better. It’s definitely worth trying.

Do your research. This is the number one thing you need to do; research, research and more research. This is when I failed and bought a wrong product. I would recommend if you are unsure about the brand search this before buying so you can be sure about it. There are a lot of helpful sites on the internet that can help you.

These three I use the most but there are plenty more on the internet that you can search on. These are ethicalelephant, crueltyfree from peta and crueltyfreekitty. The reason I never only use one site when doing my research is because sometimes they are not all up to date and in my perspective if you find the product on more that one site you can be more certain this is really cruelty free.

Another thing I learned while struggling to make my decisions on what to buy is that the word natural, clean are not always the best options. I stopped looking at the words and started looking at the ingredient list and I try to make sure I’m buying cruelty free. I don’t attempt to buy vegan or only natural products my personal main concern is buying cruelty free. So, I do my research look at the brands and ingredients list. Marketing words can be convincing but are not always true, so I would always recommend you to verify before you buy.

Lastly I would like to share my favorite cruelty free brands I currently own and enjoy.

My main favorite brand is Too Faced. This brand is still debatable if it’s cruelty free or not because of the mother company. In my perspective it is. It is very nice to see companies that are not cruelty free come out with cruelty free options. The best would be that they become completely cruelty free but they are trying.

  • Urban Decay (also debatable because of mother company)
  • Essence cosmetics
  • Colourpop
  • The Balm
  • Covergirl
  • ELF
  • Vogue (Colombian brand; everything seems to indicate that they are cruelty free)
  • NYX
  • L.A Girl cosmetics
  • Beauty Creations

Body care that are cruelty free and that I love are;

  • Lush
  • The body shop
  • Aruba Aloe

I’m currently doing my research and trying to find more cruelty free brands if you know about one I haven’t mentioned please let me know especially for skin care.

Thank you so much for reading today’s post. Not everyone will agree with my point of views and opinions but all opinions are respected here, what are yours on cruelty free? Let’s have a conversation about it, debate respectfully and remember we can help educate each other as long as we show respect to one and other.

GETTING BACK ON TRACK // 2020

Hi there loves,

Welcome back to simply rachel may or welcome if you are reading my blog for the first time. It has been a while since I last posted a blogpost on here. As we all know it has been difficult lately for many people in many life areas. For me it has been consistency and work. Since I last stopped working 8 months ago I have struggled to keep a routine, to find inspiration and the most difficult was to get things done. My blog is something that I always loved writing for but during these times it has been difficult to share content because I had no idea what to write or where to head with my content. My plus size project together with my cousin has been something we are working on in order to share fun content. This has been the only thing I have been working on lately thus in December every Monday a new Plus Size Project Post will be available. For my other content I thought it would be a good idea to share how I pulled myself together mentality and physically in order to continue to fuction and work during these difficult times. I’m not gonna say I just grabbed a cup of coffee and everything worked out because it was a process for me. I did many trails and errors before organizing myself completely. If you are doing to the same or similar thing I hope you do get out of it and maybe with this post inspire you.

First thing and one of the most difficult things was acknowledge that I was not feeling great and that I had to change something. Of course I took my time to process my feelings before trying to get better. This is a very important step that many of us skip when working on getting better. We are living trough a pandemic so it is okay to feel scared, to feel uncertain of things and to not be okay. It is okay, you are allowed to experience these feelings however, do not let these consume you. Try and do things that make you feel better. These can vary per person maybe you can watch a movie, sleep, read, meditate however make sure you can do these things inside, I will not recommend something outside, because it can increase the risks of obtaining this virus. You can also look up online and find new things to try that you can do inside the comfort of your own home. To the people who have to go outside and go to work, I get you, you can be scared and terrified because it is not an option to stay home to you I say stay BRAVE, you can do this and TAKE CARE of yourself as much as you can.

The next thing you can do to get back together is you can either go back to your routine or you can create a whole new routine. You can maybe try new ways of doing things and create a whole new routine that you couldn’t do in the past or if it feels more comfortable you can go back to your routine and start there with the time and changes you can adapt your routine as well. Having a routine for me is important because it gives my day structure, it makes me feel organized and it gives me a sense of accomplishment which encourages me to continue to do things. If routine is not something you are used to you can try to incorporate this twice a week and see how it works for you and then decide what encourages you the most. Remember you don’t need to be perfect you just have to try and see what works for you. In this time we need to learn to be a little bit more gentle with ourselves. We are simply people that are trying to go trough a pandemic.

One other thing that also helped was learning to be grateful for what I had at the moment. I had plans and goals for this year that I couldn’t work on and eventually did not accomplish. Me as a person felt bad, I felt like a failure because I did not make 2020 as I have planned at the start of the year but I realized that I shouldn’t feel like this because I am blessed to be alive during all this uncertainty, that we do not know how the next day will be. Once I realized this I started to be grateful for waking up in the morning, have food on my table and having my family with me. With time I started giving thanks to every little thing I have and this helped me to become a more grateful person but a more happy person as well. I hope this can be your case too. I know it’s not something that will happen in a week it took me over 6 months to be where I am right now but I truly hope it’s something that you can accomplish as well. And don’t get me wrong I’m not happy 100% of the day everyday of the week but the most important is allowing yourself to feel and continue.

Other little things that can help you is learn something new. There are a lot of online how to’s or free online classes. This can be something you are passionate about or something completely new. Also, you can take some rest this will help your body, mind and soul to feel renewed. You can work on your plans, your dreams and your goals. Maybe the little things like writing that business plan you had in mind, create an online or physically dream board or vision board for 2021 or for the end of the year, you can conduct some research on things that you want to accomplish or are curious about, you can take time to fully cleanse your home and belongings, you can create a blog and write, you can use social media and share things that you love bond with other people and lastly but not less important keep contact with your family or friends this will help you feel less lonely as well.

I hope you liked today’s post or found it inspiring. My goal with this blog is to in a way help or inspire you. Thank you so much for visiting Simply Rachel May. If you need a person to talk to please don’t hesitate to send me a msg or contact me trough social media. In today’s world it can become kind of lonely so I wanted to put myself available for anyone that feels lonely because I know that it can be extremely hard. Take care of yourself.

2020, Minimalism

5 Things that I learned from simple living

Hi there loves,

I hope you are doing well. Today I wanted to share 5 simple things I learned from changing my lifestyle to a more simple one. I used to call this minimalism but at the end of 2019 I changed it to simple living due the fact that I felt restricted to specific amounts and rules. Living simpler gives a broader feeling and is more open to me. I’m glad I made these changes before all the situation we have right now. It has not been easy lately for many of us but learning to live simpler has helped me appreciate the little things even more. That is why I wanted to share 5 simple things that I have learned along the way.

Appreciate what you have right now

When it comes to me and my experience with simple living it thought me to appreciate what I have at the moment. I’m grateful to have clothes to wear, makeup to use, shoes to wear and much more. It made me look at it from a different perspective. Instead of looking for new clothes every time I go out of the house, I appreciate the clothes that I currently have to be able to go out of the house. It made me realize that we do not need things to be happy, we can find happiness everywhere we look as long as you learn to appreciate.

Things are simply things

When we are attached to material things it makes us think that we need material things to be happy, however this is not the case at all. I will take clothes as an example again. I used to think a new shirt would make me feel better and it did at the beginning. When I felt bad I would go out and find a new piece of clothing to make myself feel better. In the dressing room it did and when I bought the piece of clothing it did make me feel accomplished however, when I got home it just got to the closet and sit there for a very long time. Time to time I would try it on and not like how it looks and at the end I donated it. This was not a necessary purchase and I did not like the piece so, I learned to deal with what I was going trough instead of attaching myself to a piece of material thing. Material hings can make our lives easier. we can showcase our personality but they are not everything.

You learn to style/work with what you have

Another thing I learned trough simple living was to become more creative with what I currently own. Whether this was clothes, shoes, bags or anything I could style with, it thought me to be more creative and daring to use something in many different ways. If you are the type of person that does not like to be seen in the same outfit more than one simple living can challenge you to become more creative when it comes to styling your clothes. A different shoe or accessory can make a big difference. You also learn to take better care of your belongings in order to use it more.

Spend money more wisely

Before simple living I used to spend a lot of money on things I did not need, like or used. I used to be the person who would spend money for no reason. This was not good nor did it bring me any benefits. As I grew up I started to learn more about the value of money and saving. Simple living also thought me to spend more wisely because your purchase can also make a difference on the planet. Using what you have for longer and spending less money gives you the opportunity to travel or do things you wanted for so long but did save up for. I learned this in 2015 when I wanted to go on a EUROPE trip. I had to save up money in order to make this trip happen and buying less things was what made the biggest difference. A beautiful memory can have a lot more value compared to a non-essential product.

Don’t be to hard on yourself

Lastly, what I wanted to share was to not be so hard on yourself. Give yourself time and space to learn and grow. I did not learn this in one day, it took me months to learn and realize many things. So if you are starting take your time. If you want to try this lifestyle maybe you can challenge yourself first and than make the changes. I know that this could not work for everybody so share with me what lifestyle do you apply? Do you already live simply? I would love to learn more about lifestyles. I’m personally do not know if I would stay like this, maybe it would change in the future but I’m trying to learn, live happily simple and keeping an open mind to what life could bring for me. I hope you enjoyed today’s post.

2020, Endometriosis, Uncategorized

My Endometriosis Story // 2 Years

Hi there loves,

I hope you are doing well. I haven’t post in a while, like I mentioned in my last July update, we are dealing with a lot lately worldwide and we need to listen to ourselves. I really did not feel like sharing content. I took time to spend with my family and loved ones, took time to read, relax and to make myself feel more like myself again. On the other hand I’m currently really inspired and would like to start sharing content again.

Today I’m going to share something completely different and more personal. My endometriosis story.

Today September 5th marks exactly 2 years that I have been diagnosed with endometriosis. A complicated health issue. I thought about sharing my story for a long time but I was afraid to do so. However, today I decided to share this in case there is a female out there suffering from horrible abdominal pain and not knowing what she has. I want to share this to show my fellow females that you are not alone, endometriosis can be harsh experience but stay positive because there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

My story begins at the end of 2017. I just graduated University and wanted to change my room. I started moving furniture, painting and doing everything to make my room more myself for my new journey after University. What I didn’t know was that there was a whole other journey ahead. While working on my room in October I got a horrible abdominal pain, I thought it was because I was moving heavy things around. I took a painkiller and felt better. With the days this pain came again, and each time a little worse. I went to the doctors but none had an answer for me. They told me it was just muscle pain or period pain. As weeks went by I started to feel worse, I started to get pain in my back as well, I started to get horrible migraines and the abdominal pain was way worse. I went to gynecologists but they told me I was fine, nothing to worry about. I told them something is wrong I can feel it. I asked if they could do more tests but they refused because I was “too young” to have something. Each month I would get another gynecologists so I started back at 0 but none of them tried more than to take an echo of my ovaries and telling me the pain is in my head because everything is fine.

December came around I couldn’t sleep because of the pain. It hurts when I stand, sit, walk or sleep and it didn’t go away. Here is where I stared to get even more worried because I had a pain that no painkiller would help and the doctors are telling me it’s in my head. I couldn’t go out anymore because of the pain and exhaustion I felt. From December to February I started to go frequently to the emergency room because of the pain. It was so painful that I felt sick to my stomach. I got tested for many infections or illnesses but every time these came back alright. I still remember the 7th of January of 2018, I told my family I couldn’t deal with the pain anymore and started crying because I just couldn’t deal with it anymore. They took me to the emergency room but I was fine, all the results came back alright. In March the depression started and got worse because I was told to stop with what I was feeling because It was mentally. I started to believe that and my lifestyle changed completely. It was just me and my pain and the thoughts. It was a hard period of time for me because I was always having anxiety attacks, I just wanted to sleep all the time, I didn’t work on anything, I distanced myself from friends, family and loved ones. I felt pretty lonely. I went from this productive and happy person to a person who did not want to move.

In April my parents said it was enough and we took a plane to Colombia. In Colombia they helped me so well, they listened to me and try to understand what was going on. They immediately conducted a test that checked my body for cancerous cells and a full body scan. Thank god all these results came back alright. I met with a gynecologist that helped me so well. He was really interested in helping me and did everything he could so we could find what my problem was. A helpful thing I did was I started writing down when I felt the pain, how I felt the pain and any other symptoms I felt with it. This help indicate the doctor that I could have endometriosis. We planned my surgery for September, took a treatment that would help during the time I was preparing and saving up for the surgery. I had to pay every cent on my own, it wasn’t easy because a surgery is expensive and you have to be prepared for extra costs. I took a plane back to Aruba and starting to prepare for my surgery.

While taking the pill I noticed that it effected me emotionally. I got more depressed and couldn’t deal with all the emotions so I called the doctor and we decided to stop it until after the surgery. I felt much better and started to work for my surgery. On Aruba the doctors kept telling me it’s nothing but I was preparing for my surgery so I didn’t pay attention to them. During all this time the only thing that kept me sane was praying and believing that GOD will help me out of this. My faith was stronger than the pain.

On September 3rd 2018 we took another flight to Medellin, Colombia. On the 4th I conducted all the necessary tests in order to undergo the surgery on the 5th. Everything came back well and I was ready for my surgery. I still remember going to a small chapel in the Hospital in order to pray for my surgery and health. Like I mentioned prayers are what got me through this. GOD did a miracle for me and thanks to him I can be okay today. On the 5th of September I was early at the hospital with my mom. We prayed once again at the chapel and I went in for my surgery. The nurses, the doctor and everyone at Hospital Pablo Tobon Uribe in Medellin where amazing human beings to me. They made sure I was okay, I felt safe and that I knew everything that was about to happen. I thank god for sending such good people in my path.

I remember waking up from my surgery, vomiting and asking what I had. They told me I can be calm that I have endometriosis and not cancer. The doctor would explain everything to me later. I saw my mom and just hugged her for a long time. I thanked god that I was okay and tried to rest some more. I went back to the hotel where we were staying and slept the rest of the day. What was amazing is that he doctor messaged me all the time asking me if I was okay and assured me that everything will be fine. As the days passed I felt better. The days after the surgery where not easy, it hurt and I was crying when I had to pee because it hurt so much. After a couple of days I went back to the doctors office where he explained to me what I had and what we could do to make me feel better and try to have a normal life again.

On one side I was relieved because I did not have cancer or a life threatening health issue but on the other side I was scared to what was to come. Endometriosis is when tissues of your uterus grows outside of your uterus. It comes in many stages and every woman experiences this different. This can weaken your everyday life and there is no cure for this. So, you have it for the rest of your life. Being said that I was in shock that I had no idea what endometriosis was but the scarier part was hearing that there is no cure. We had a long chat and the doctor prescribed me another medicine. This has been the pill I have been taking ever since and let me tell you it has improved my life so much.

Today I can say I feel very good. I still get pain, I still get horrible bloating and other symptoms but I can move without pain in every movement. I can sleep straight without the pain waking me up, I can go out and live. My life and health has improved so much in these 2 years that everyday I wake up I thank god for helping with this. Without him this was not possible. I’m going to be honest it was not easy, they made me feel I was crazy, I was weak from excruciating pain on a daily basis but slowly I started from 0 and today I can say I’m happy to be alive.

It took me 2 years to get here it was not in one day. But did you know there are females that suffer for more than 5 years before they get diagnosed? If you have symptoms that you feel can be related to endometriosis don’t give up until they tell you what is wrong. Don’t ever feel bad for wanting a answer for your pain. You deserve to know! Don’t let the doctors tell you that you are crazy! You are in pain. Fight until you know because you intuition is not wrong. Listen to it.

If you have endometriosis I send all the good vibes your way. This illness is not easy but we are stronger than this. Having surgery every couple of months or years will not be easy but have faith that you will feel better. Maybe in order to get the right medicine for you it will take many trails and error but don’t give up. We won’t be able to live normally but cry when you need to and rest your body when its necessary and than continue. Don’t beat yourself up, some days are going to be great and some bad but take it one day at the time. I know we smile trough excruciating pain and that is what makes us ENDO WARRIORS!

This is my ENDOMETRIOSIS story.

2020, Update

July Update // 2020

Hi there loves,

How are you doing during these times? It’s been a while since I last updated my blog and social media. This was due to various facts. The main reason was that I had no idea what to post while all the difficult situations where unfolding. Additionally, I was dealing with personal anxiety issues that writing a positive blog-post was not on my priority list.

It has been a difficult past 4 months however, it is possible to improve. I personally have improved myself quite a bit since then. I managed to do some positive changes in my lifestyle. Right now I’m doing better so I thought I would start sharing blog-post with you again. I hope you are doing okay, if not hang in there and I hope you can also find your tranquility.

“It’s not certain what will come in the future but we need to keep our faith and positivity in order to continue.” – Rachel

For me personally it has been a rollercoaster these past 4 months. I’ve had amazing days of happiness and other days I just wanted to stay asleep but these are just part of our personal journey that we need to experience in order to grow. A quote I have seen and that remained with me is: “There are no flowers without rain.” – Unknown. I have no idea who this quote belongs to but it has made a difference on how I view certain things. That is why I wanted to remind you today, to love yourself, be kind to yourself and try to understand yourself. Try and put yourself first, work on you and then concur the world one day at the time.

Take a break, take a breather

Things I have improved on:

  • I do my best work out on regular basis
  • I learned to eat healthier
  • I journal when I feel down or when I feel like I need to
  • I try to talk to a trusted person when I feel like I can’t deal with the situation
  • I try to rest when needed
  • I don’t judge myself

These are just some small steps I try to take day by day to try and improve myself. I don’t complete them every day and sometimes I do the opposite however, I try to go back and try to improve again because I’m working on myself, I’m not done yet. I’m aware that allot of work has still to be done but I take it one day at the time. Maybe you can start by trying one thing and then slowly improve yourself, This is not an easy process to go trough however, it can help your mental health if you need help with this. This is something we all experience different and need to work on ourselves differently. This is why I like to share my experience in order to show you that we are all different but we can also feel the same way sometimes. I would also like to remind you that sometimes we don’t feel better or we can also start to feel worse at days and not a single drop of positivity will remain or will exist but hold on to your faith, it will get better. I hope you enjoyed this quick update I wanted to share with you. And I hope that you are doing well. If you ever need to talk to someone my personal messages are always open to listen. Take care of yourselves. Sending much love, hope and faith your way.

To-Do Ideas // 2020

Hi there loves,

How are you doing during these days? I know we can feel scared because of the known and the unknown. Even though I try to not get to deep into all of this, I wanted to share some ideas that you can incorporate during the days that you are home or you don’t know what to do.

I wanted to share these with you in order to maybe take your attention away for a bit. I am aware that some people will have to continue to work such as doctors, police officers and many others. To them a thank you from the bottom of my heart. To their family remain strong and pray for your loved ones. We will surpass this.

To you reading, let’s get to the post.

Because I have a lot of free time during these days, I did some of these and they helped me feel a bit more calm. Because I shifted my concentration to something else it helped me quite a bit.

  • Take time to breath

In times like these we can feel more stressed and it can also make you feel uncomfortable. Take time during the day to take a breather, I know sounds simple however, we tend to get busy with everything around us that sometimes we can forget to breath. This will help you feel more calm and relaxed. There are plenty of techniques you can use for this but in my case I simply take 3 deep breaths every time I feel to anxious or I just need to calm down. Take your time, take your breather and than continue.

  • Take time to do nothing / Reflect

Like I mentioned above we tend to make ourselves busy in order to distract ourselves but this can make us more anxious. This is why I recommend you to try and not to get to deep into news and social media because seeing about the virus constantly can make you even more anxious and nervous. That’s why take time out of your day sit, walk or simply lay down and do nothing. You will notice that many thoughts are going to show up but try and not to engage with those thoughts, take your time to really have blank mind. At the end you will feel much better.

  • Journal

Write your feelings, thoughts or simply write. You will get your thoughts out of your head and paper. You can later re-visit these and read them. Maybe you could make something out of this. Hopefully we will understand why we where going through all of this. That is why I ask you to be kind to people during these times.

  • Prepare your favorite dish

Normally we don’t have time to do things we love especially cooking. Now you have the time to prepare and cook your favorite dish. Additionally, you can even learn how to make something new. I find this so fun and educationally because you learn about food and you try new things.

  • Work on a project you haven’t have the time for

In my case I had a to do list on things I always wanted to try, wanted to learn or projects I wanted to make a reality but I never really had the time to do that. Maybe you also have things you wanted to work on but never really had the time to. Some ideas are writing a book, organizing your kitchen/pantry, read a book, learn a new language, work on a business-plan, take an online class, re-organize your room, de-clutter and a lot more.

  • Support you fellow friends by reading or watching their content

Lastly, I wanted to share and encourage you an idea to support your friends. As a content creator myself, (A blogger, I consider that) and there are many many more on the internet could use your help during these times. Maybe you normally don’t have time to read a blog for example now you can take time and support us bloggers. If you have friends doing these you can help by putting your input.

Thank you so much for reading. If you have reached here, THANK YOU. Your support means the world. I will try and continue to write during these days and trying to bring more uplifting content to distract you a little bit.

2020, Self-Care

Self-Care // 2020

Hi there loves,

I hope you are doing well during this difficult time. My wish for all of you are health, positivity and safety. Taking care of yourself has been key for ages but just now we realize how important it is to take care of ourselves. In my opinion, especially during these difficult times. I’m sure you have seen many, way too many content about self-care however, I wanted to share with you some of my self-care habits. I wanted to share them with you with the goal to at least help or inspire one of you. What self-care means to me doesn’t have to mean the same for you. We all take care of ourselves in different ways, so if these are not helpful to you maybe we have different views on self-care.

For me the meaning of self-care is taking care of you body and mind. Being able to give you body and/or mind the ability to relax and not stressing over things. Giving yourself the time to breath and processing your feelings in order to feel better.

I am a person like I have shared before, that has really bad anxiety and knowing what I can do to help me feel better allows me to feel a little bit more confident that I will feel better. Not only do I do self-care when I’m stressed or have anxiety but I also like to practice self-care when things are good. I like to have a balance. I don’t have a specific day or time-stamp when it comes to self-care, I practice it when I feel necessary and I try to incorporate it at least once a week.

The things I like to do for self-care are:

  • Time

Like I mentioned in past blog-posts (Getting Back On Track // 2020Anxiety & Low Motivation) time is something we NEED to give ourselves. Time to process our feelings, time to wind down, time to learn, time to sleep and time to take care of ourselves. Time has been something we don’t have anymore because it goes on by flying. But I think if we start with small steps by giving ourselves time, we will eventually be able to create time. For me self-care is important that is why I try and give it time.

  • Taking a long shower

Here I take a shower, wash my hair, scrub my body and hydrate me body. I do this in order to clear my mind. I also to this to feel fresh and accomplished afterwards. Additionally, this help you calm down, your nervous system will calm down as well.

  • Drink a calming tea

For me drinking a calming tea helps me a lot. The warmth combined with breathers helps me calm down, relax and ready to continue. My favorite tea is by the clipper: the mint, green tea and turmeric combination, black tea with milk or chamomile tea. These are the ones I drink when I want to calm down and trying to feel better. Taking care of my body and the nervous system. If tea isn’t your favorite type of drink you can try drinking something you love. Remember self-care is all about you. This is even better after a shower or combined with a good book.

  • Reading a book

Talking about books, I’m a total nerd when it comes to books. I just love ready, whether this is a self-help book or a fiction, I am all about reading. This helps me personally to shut to outside world and get lost in the books. Sometimes we overthink and don’t know what to do. Distracting your mind from thinking about problems or anything else can help you obtain another view afterwards. For me personally after I have read a book, I’m more calm and a look at things sometimes even with new eyes. If books are not your thing try watching a movie, the point here is to distract your mind.

  • Learn something new

I know, you may think learning something new? How can this help me? Well I mean learn something you are curious about. For example, you are always curious about the moon (this is something I’m super curios about), go online of search in books about the moon. This will help you gain knowledge, distract you and it’s something you are curious about. If you want to make it full on cozy you can light up a candle and grab your laptop, PC or book and start searching and reading away. Here you are helping your mind. Next time someone asks you about it you can tell them all about it.

  • Sleep

Sometimes we are so into our jobs that we forget to sleep. We have had that important project, that important meeting, everything important that we sacrifice our sleep. For self-care I simply go to bed if I need that I need that sleep. Working with a tired mind and body won’t help as much. Remember to make yourself priority. Sometimes it’s difficult to fall asleep because our mind is still reminding us that we have so much to do. In this case I write everything I need to do down on a do-to list, I try going to bed and prioritizing this list when I’m back up. You won’t fear that you will forget something and you will be well rested.

Other things that also helps with self-care

  • Paint our nails
  • Put on a mask
  • Prioritize skin-care
  • Meditate
  • Listen to your favorite songs
  • Re-unite with people you miss

What do you do for self-care?

I hope you liked today’s post and could have learned something from it. I wish you all the best. And a big thank you for reading.

Have a great, blessed and positive day everyone!

Getting Back On Track // 2020

Hi there loves,

After having low motivation and struggling with anxiety on a daily basis like I have shared here Anxiety & Low Motivation, I had to do some things in order to get back together and get organized. It was a long process but I’m back to feeling pretty positive, motivated to accomplish my daily tasks and I got back to working on things I love.

It took a long time to get here however, I feel like my new plans, routines and habits are here to stay. That is why I wanted to share these steps I took or better said the things I did in order to get where I am today. Some of these may seem logic but I wanted to share them with you anyways. If you are in the situation I was in, I want to encourage you to take your time, process everything and when you feel like you are ready take that initiative and start working on better habits or change your environment, small changes will help you become a more motivated person.

I see these period of times as a change and learning process. You will learn new ways to get out of that rut, you will feel new things and maybe even want new things for the future. But don’t forget to valid all your feelings in order to continue. Allow yourself to feel everything because if you hide your feelings they will probably come back to you and maybe even stronger. This time I allowed myself to feel every single unpleasant and pleasant feeling I had, and I feel that this is what made the difference this time. I took time to process these and now I’m in a much better place. So take your time love, but don’t get lost and if you need help please ask for it.

After this long intro, let me share what I actually did.

Take it slow

Like I mentioned above and what I will continue to repeat is: “to take it slow”. It’s important to take the time to let yourself feel and heal. This is very important however, I’m not saying stay in bed for weeks and not go to work to be able to get in a better place. If this is what you need to do to feel better though, do it but try not to drown in this. What I’m trying explain here is that you have to give yourself the time to acknowledge you are in rut, feel all the feelings it brings and than work on getting better. Like I said I took it slow this time and I feel like I’m in a much better place. My motivation is way higher, I work harder on my projects and I’m working on creating more healthy and more mine kinda habits.

Journal your thoughts

In the beginning I though that journal will help me, but I didn’t imagen it would help me the way it did. I journal sometimes and I try to write down all that has been bothering me and memories I wouldn’t want to forget. This time I just wrote everything I was thinking and feeling. I just brain dumped everything on paper and now I can think clearly without other thoughts bothering or getting in the way. I highly suggest you to write about everything and maybe you will also find out why you are having problems with anxiety, motivation or anything you are struggling with.

Take a day off / To yourself

Take a day off and dedicate this day to yourself and yourself only. I don’t mean a day to clean, I mean a day you can do whatever you want. If you wanted to do something for so long maybe a day for this can be very helpful or if you want to stay inside and do something for yourself that’s amazing too. Appreciate yourself enough to do something nice for yourself and try to not think about the other stuff. The next day you will feel good and it will help motivate you to continue working on yourself. You deserve it love!

Clean/ De-clutter

Many times when we are in a rut we tend to also get disorganized and cleaning is not priority however, after you have been true all this cleaning may be the first step to take in order to get back. In my case it was. I started by cleaning and organizing my room, do the laundry, clean my bathroom and re-organized some things around. This also motivated to de-clutter my closet and get a new setting. Symbolically for it meant I was ready to get back on track and I was ready for what was to come. A new setting or simply organized space will help you have and keep a calm mind. For me it helps immensely to have a clean and organized space to work and rest in. After doing all this I also kept the habit to clean everyday for a bit and remain organized.

Read a book

I’m putting this here because it’s another step that has helped me very much. After going through not feeling motivated at all, reading a book made me feel accomplished and motivated me to further work on broaden my knowledge with books. I finished the four agreements and I definitely recommend it. It was the perfect choice to read after being in a rut. You can read any book you want as long as you finish it and learn something in your own way.

Start small

When getting back on track it may seem a bit overwhelming that is why I recommend you to start small. Do small tasks a day until you reach that motivated and productive person. It may take a while for your body and mind to adapt to your new lifestyle or simply from not being able to do things to doing things on daily basis. Take your time and slowly build up to get back together.

Continue

After you have you start being motivated and productive again don’t forget to continue to do what helped you and don’t forget to plan for you tomorrow it will help you the next day if you don’t feel all that great. You have reached so far so, continue for tomorrow you will accomplish your day!

Thank you if you have read until here! Today’s post has been a bit longer but I really wanted to share my experience with you and offer you some tips on getting back together. I feel like give yourself time has been the thing I repeated the most so for the last time I wanted to say “Give yourself the time to be Yourself again.

Ps. I have another blog-post on getting back on track you can check it out here How I work on getting back on Track.

Have a great, blessed and positive day everyone!
